Joshua & Rebecca | Engagement Session in Holland, MI
There is just something about a sunrise engagement session in Holland MI that feels extra magical. The quiet streets, the soft light coming over the lake, and the way the whole town feels like it’s still waking up makes it one of my favorite times to photograph couples. Joshua and Rebecca’s engagement session in Holland MI – beach and downtown was honestly the perfect mix of romantic, elegant, and carefree.
We started the morning in Downtown Holland, Michigan right as the sun was beginning to rise. One of the things I love most about downtown Holland for engagement photos is how versatile it is. The brick walkways, charming storefronts, glowing streetlights, and little hidden corners make it feel timeless while still giving such a fun and modern vibe. Since it was early in the morning, the streets were quiet which gave us so much freedom to move around and really soak in the moment without distractions.
Rebecca absolutely looked stunning. She wore the most elegant white dress for the downtown portion of the session that photographed beautifully with the soft sunrise tones reflecting through the streets. The flowy details and clean, classy look fit downtown Holland perfectly. Joshua kept it timeless with a crisp white button down paired with navy dress pants, and together they looked effortlessly coordinated without feeling overly formal. Their outfits complimented the soft morning colors so well and truly made the entire session feel so elevated.
One of my favorite parts about photographing these two was how natural they were together. There was so much laughter the entire morning. They made each other smile constantly, and honestly, those are always my favorite engagement sessions to capture. Nothing felt forced. Whether they were walking hand in hand through downtown Holland or wrapped up in each other during quiet moments, everything just felt genuine and easy.
After exploring downtown, we headed over to Tunnel Park in Holland, Michigan for the beach portion of their engagement session. Tunnel Park is easily one of the best locations for a beach engagement session in Holland MI because it offers such a classic Lake Michigan shoreline while still having beautiful dunes and scenic views surrounding it. The calm water that morning mixed with the hazy sunrise light created the dreamiest backdrop.
Rebecca changed into her second dress for the beach, and it could not have fit the setting more perfectly. Her second look had such a soft, beachy feel to it with a flowy silhouette that moved beautifully in the wind along the shoreline. It completely transformed the vibe of the session while still feeling cohesive with the first half downtown. I always tell my couples that bringing a second outfit can make such a difference, especially when doing an engagement session in Holland MI – beach and downtown because both locations have such different aesthetics.
Some of my favorite moments from the beach portion were when they fully leaned into the experience instead of worrying about getting sandy or wet. They ran through the shoreline, danced barefoot in the sand, and even stepped into the water together while laughing the entire time. Those moments always end up creating the most meaningful images because they reflect real connection instead of perfection.
The image of them laying together at the edge of the water while the waves rolled in around them might honestly be one of my favorites from the entire session. It felt so carefree and romantic in the best way possible. Sessions like this are such a reminder that engagement photos do not have to feel stiff or posed. They can feel like a date night, an adventure, and a memory all wrapped into one.
I already know their wedding day in September is going to be absolutely incredible. After spending the morning with Joshua and Rebecca, it is so easy to see how much love and excitement they have for this season of life together. They are the kind of couple that make photographing love stories so easy because they genuinely enjoy being together, and that always shines through in every single image.
