Elburn Forest Preserve Engagement Session | Stefanie + Jon
Some sessions just hit a little different… and this was one of them.
Stefanie and Jon aren’t just another couple I met through photography, I’ve known them both since high school. So getting to step into this season of their lives and capture their engagement photos felt really full circle for me. It’s one of those moments where you’re like… wait, how are we all old enough for this?
I traveled out to Southwest Illinois for their session at Elburn Forest Preserve, and from the second we started shooting, everything just felt easy. No pressure, no overthinking, just them being themselves.
And honestly, that’s my favorite kind of session.
The light that evening was unreal. That soft golden glow coming through the trees mixed with the open field… it was the kind of setting that does half the work for you. But what really made this session special was them. The way Jon looks at Stefanie, the way she laughs with her whole face, the way they naturally fall into each other, it’s the kind of connection you can’t fake.
We spent the evening walking through the preserve, letting moments happen instead of forcing them. A lot of movement, a lot of laughter, and a lot of those quiet in-between moments that end up meaning the most.
Those are always my favorite to capture.
There’s something really special about photographing people you’ve known for years. You see the growth, the story, the way life has brought them to this exact moment. And getting to document that before their wedding day? It’s such an honor.
Speaking of… May 16 is coming up QUICK, and if this session is any indication, their wedding day is going to be so full of love, joy, and all the best kinds of emotions.
Stefanie + Jon,
I am so incredibly excited for you two. Thank you for trusting me with this season, it means more than you know!
I seriously cannot wait to capture your day.
